Her train home. (Alzheimer's & Hospice.)

Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 05:02:14 PM PDT

This will be brief, barely qualifying as a diary.  And as it does not pertain to either yesterday's election or today's news, I hope you will forgive the indulgence.

My Mother-In-Law, who my wife and I have cared for here at home for a number of years, and about whom I have written numerous diaries over the last year (this being the most recent), passed away this morning about 5:20.  It had been a long and difficult end - but one which filled me with increased respect for her.  She died in my wife's arms, with me attending.

A full obituary is here.  Sometime soon I will write more about her final days, and what her passing means to me.  Tonight, I build a fire in memory of her.

She finally caught that train home.

UPDATE: My thanks for all the kind words from the folks here.  If there is ever any doubt of the value of this site, during times of trouble and squabbles, remember this - that there is strength in community.  United we stand . . .
