Links for gun-owning & gun-curious Kossacks.

I first ran this about 18 months ago. In one of the 2nd Amendment discussions this week following the SCOTUS decision on Wednesday, I'd mentioned it - and was encouraged to update and repost it.  So, here it is, updated and expanded.

Jim

First off, welcome to all my fellow RKBA liberal/progressives, and those who are curious about guns.  There are a lot more of us than anyone realizes, either on our side or among conservative ranks.

But sometimes it can seem as though we're alone, with the traditional hostility towards gun ownership on the one side and slurs against "lib'ruls" on the other.  I know that some of the gun forums I frequent are rife with hostility to anyone to the left of Dick Cheney.  And there are a number of Dem/Progressive sites (not dKos by & large, I am happy to say!) where if you reveal that you are a gun owner you can expect to be banned outright, or at least pounced upon for your bloodthirsty ways.

So, some time back I thought I would start to compile a list of sites that us gun-owning liberals might find useful and welcoming - resources for discussing our interest in guns with fellow lefties, places for refuge when you want to compare notes, even sites of indeterminate or hostile politics which provide good information (which is to say, I do not endorse these sites - I just think they have good information).  I have no illusions that this list is comprehensive, so I invite everyone to add their own favorite in the comments.  In no particular order...

Liberal gun sites:
Pro-Gun Progressive.  Be sure to go to the "Forums" section on this one.
Gun Toting Liberal 2006 Weblogs Award Finalist. Mostly about liberal politics - most Kossacks will feel right at home.
Liberals with Guns Check out the "Background" page in particular.
Pink Pistols "Armed gays don't get bashed."  Pretty much sums it up.
Armed Liberal Now largely just archives, but some good info.
Amendment II Democrats Not a real active site, but some good answers to the "Why do you want to see people die from guns?" question.

Gun Safety & General information sites:
Cornered Cat An extensive, excellent site by a mother who chooses to carry a concealed weapon.  Covers all the basics on gun safety and useage from a non-macho perspective. This is the site I recommend to anyone interested in gun ownership.
Gobango A relatively new site by a recent US Citizen (immigrant from the UK) who is a long-term gun owner.  Still growing, but lots of good info and perspective from someone who saw widespread gun restrictions/confiscations.
Americans for Gun Safety Foundation Lots of solid info, have a very good primer on gun safety, even if you do have to look at a picture of John McCaine on the sidebar.
The Box of Truth Casual, but informative testing of different ammos, weapons, et cetera.  Some fun stuff, but a lot of good insight into issues about home defense, the power of different guns, and whatnot.

Concealed-Carry & self-defense issues and resources:
Handgunlaw.us Only two states have no provision for private citizens to carry a concealed handgun.  A dozen more are so-called "may issue" states.  All the rest are "shall issue".  This site contains full info on which are which, what states reciprocate with which other states, and links directly to the relevant state law so you can see for yourself.
Packing.org Much like Handgunlaw, but more sporadic about updates.
U.S. Concealed Carry Association They've got a political agenda, but also lots of good info.
Updated to add: Combat Carry A site dedicated to the ramifications of the decision to carry.
Civilian Gun Defense Blog News accounts of people defending themselves with guns.
Raging against self-defense subtitled: 'A Psychiatrist Examines The Anti-Gun Mentality'.  Hosted on JPFO, a very aggressive pro-RKBA site.
Gun Facts a .pdf ebook about gun control and concealed-carry issues.

And lastly, some good equipment & discussion sites:
The High Road Big site, good discussions, about one-quarter of the people participating are of a liberal bent.
Rohrbaugh Forum and Steyr Club, two forums for some of my favorite pistols.
Geeks with Guns "This ain't your father's 2nd Amendment website."  Uh, they're right.
Holster links page.
Ammoman Ammunition.

Well, there 'tis.  Some good resources I've found over the last half dozen years or so (though I've been a gun owner and shooter for about 40 years...).  I look forward to hearing of some other good sites.
